Maltese Lace Making - Bizzilla

The art of lace making is popular in both Malta and Gozo, although Gozo. Its rootscan be traced from the cotton trade of the Maltese Islands along the maritime trade route with Genoa, since 1530. It was first promoted in the old nuns convents at Mdina, the old capital of Malta, and in the Borgo cities developed around the Grand Harbour after the coming of the Knights of Malta in 1530.This craft has passed down through different generations and many lace makers, mainly women practice this craft in their own homes or private space. Few women can be seen making lace outdoors nowadays.
